Quick answer: To make a WhatsApp QR code, enter your number with the country code and an optional first message. The code opens a chat with you when scanned. The free ALBM.IN QR Code Designer makes it in your browser with no sign-up.

How to make your QR code in three steps

  1. 1

    Add your link

Type a web address, a WhatsApp number or any text.

  2. 2

    Make it yours

Pick colours, a pattern, corner shapes, a logo and a sticker.

  3. 3

    Download

Save a PNG for posts and print, or an SVG for large signs.

One scan to start a conversation

Customers are happier to message than to call. A WhatsApp QR code opens a chat with your number straight away, so you can print it on a shop window, a visiting card, an invitation or a flyer and let people reach you without saving a contact first.

Choose WhatsApp chat above, enter your number with the country code (for India that starts with 91), and add an optional first message such as Hi, I would like to book a shoot. The message is filled in for the person, they only press send.

Good places to use it

Wedding and event enquiries, product orders from Instagram, table and menu requests, appointment bookings, support desks, and invitations where guests can message the family.

Everything you can customise

  • Colours and gradients

Solid brand colours or a two-colour gradient, with a separate colour for the corner markers.

  • Six patterns

Square, dots, rounded, soft, classy or leaf shapes, and three corner styles.

  • Logo in the middle

Popular social icons or your own picture, kept in your browser.

  • Scan me stickers

Card, banner, pill and ticket layouts with your own wording.

  • PNG, print size and SVG

Sharp at any size, from a story to a shop sign.

  • Private by design

No account. Your links, logos and codes are not uploaded or saved.

Tips for a QR code that scans every time

  • Dark code on a light background scans best. Keep the contrast strong.
  • Leave the blank border around the code. It is part of the code.
  • Print at least 2 cm (about one inch) wide, and larger for anything read from a distance. A good rule is one tenth of the scanning distance.
  • Keep a logo near 30 percent of the width or less.
  • Do not stretch, crop or place the code over a busy photo.
  • Test the final file with two phones before you print a batch.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write the number?

Digits only, with the country code and no plus sign or spaces. For example 919876543210 for an Indian number.

Can I set a message that is already typed?

Yes. The first message is optional. People can edit it before they send.

Does it work with WhatsApp Business?

Yes. The link opens a chat with whichever WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business account owns that number.

Is this QR code generator really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark, no scan limit and no expiry date. You design the code, download it and use it as often as you like, on print or on screen.

Do you store my link, my logo or my QR code?

No. The code, the sticker and any logo you upload are made in your own browser and are never sent to our servers. Nothing is saved to an account because there is no account. Close the tab and it is gone, so download the file you want to keep.

What is the difference between a direct code and a short link?

A direct code holds your web address inside the pattern, so it scans straight to your page and keeps working for as long as that page exists, even without us. For well known sites such as Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube and Google Maps you can instead choose an albm.in short link: the scan opens albm.in for a moment and passes straight on to the same page. Any other address is always encoded directly.

Which addresses can use the short link option?

Well known profile, messaging, video and map hosts, plus albm.in pages. We only forward to a short list of trusted sites so the service cannot be used to send people to harmful pages. Every other address is encoded directly into the code.

Can I track how many people scanned my code?

Not with this tool. The codes are static, which is why they never expire and cost nothing to keep alive. If you want to know how a link performs, add campaign tags to the address itself and read them in your own analytics.

Why will my QR code not scan?

Almost always it is contrast or size. Use a dark code on a light background, keep the blank border around the code, do not stretch it, and print it at least 2 cm (about one inch) wide. If you add a logo keep it under about a third of the width. Always test with two different phones before you print a large batch.

Should I download PNG or SVG?

PNG is right for social posts, messages and most printing. SVG is a vector file that stays sharp at any size, which suits banners, signboards and professional printers. The SVG holds the code only, without the sticker.

Can I put my logo or an Instagram or WhatsApp icon in the middle?

Yes. Choose one of the popular social icons or upload your own picture. The code is built with a high level of error correction so it still scans with a logo covering part of the middle.
